Dental Crowns in Braintree, MA

Dental crowns are required to solve a variety of dental problems. Crowns replace those portions of teeth that have been lost due to decay, abnormal wear, or fracture. Because it covers the entire tooth, it prevents further tooth fracture and allows severely broken down teeth to survive for long periods of time.

Crowns can also be used to improve the appearance and function of teeth, to close spaces between teeth, as well as to resolve many other dental problems. Crowns are the workhorse of modern dentistry.

With extremely rare exceptions, Dr. Salem uses crowns made entirely of porcelain. Modern day dental porcelains are extremely strong and because they do not contain any metals, they are extremely aesthetic. When done carefully, modern day crowns will look and feel like real teeth. They should be indistinguishable from real teeth, in appearance, comfort and in function.

The Crown Treatment Process

· Preparation: To prepare for the crown, Dr. Salem will first numb the area around the tooth and remove any decay or damaged portions of the tooth. He will then shape the remaining tooth to create space for the crown.

· Impression: An impression is captured and sent to a dental laboratory for crown construction. The laboratory Dr. Salem uses to construct the final crowns is nationally renowned. Their technicians are true artisans that construct incredibly beautiful and realistic crowns.

· Temporary crown: While your permanent crown is being made, Dr. Salem will place a beautiful, functional temporary crown over the prepared tooth to protect it.

· Placement: Once your permanent crown is ready, after about three weeks, Dr. Salem will remove the temporary crown and carefully place the new crown over the prepared tooth. He will check the fit and make any necessary adjustments before permanently bonding the crown to the tooth with dental cement.

With proper care, including brushing, flossing, and regular visits to our Braintree dental office, your dental crown can last for many years, and can help to restore the function and appearance of your smile.
